What is blending paint?

Sprayed onto the edge of fresh clear coat in a spot repair. It dissolves the overspray so the new paint blends into the old one without a visible edge.

When you spray from an aerosol can, fine droplets land at the edge of the spray pattern that are already half dry. They no longer flow out and leave a rough, dull margin – in raking light the repair shows up as an edge.

Blending paint is sprayed thinly onto this edge straight after the clear coat – never over the whole area. It dissolves the overspray, the edge fades out softly, and once dry the transition is polished.

It differs from blending thinner in its make-up: the thinner is a pure solvent mix without binder and is mainly used with a spray gun. GLOSSDOC 1K blending paint is a paint product, ready to use in an aerosol can, with no hardener and no mixing – and according to the manufacturer compatible with common clear coat systems, including 2K clear coat.
