Car care glossary
What is the lotus effect on a car?
Named after the lotus plant, whose leaves repel water: droplets roll off the surface and take dirt with them.
The leaves of the lotus plant stay clean even though the plant grows in muddy water: their surface is structured so that water does not cling but gathers into droplets that carry dirt particles away.
On a car, a sealant does this job. It makes paint, glass or wheels water-repellent (hydrophobic): water beads up instead of forming a film, dirt sticks less, and the next wash is easier. Beading after rain or a wash shows whether the protection is still working.
A spray sealant such as GLOSSDOC AQUA SHIELD is quick to apply after washing and, according to the product description, is suitable for paint, glass, wheels and plastic. It only bonds properly to a clean surface.
