What the film is about
The film briefly shows what the GLOSSDOC Silicone Remover is for: it removes silicone, grease, oil and release agents – and sticker residue too. That makes it the step before any paint or repair job, because a single fingerprint or a trace of polish or wax is enough to stop the paint wetting the surface and to cause small craters known as fish eyes.
The silicone remover contains C7–C9 hydrocarbons and isopropanol. The hydrocarbons specifically dissolve non-polar residues such as silicone and wax, which alcohol alone only partly removes. It suits bare metal, sanded car paint, bodywork and wheels, evaporates quickly without residue and so improves the adhesion of primer and paint. It is not made for silicone joints in the bathroom.
Step by step
- Wash and dry the surface so you do not spread road dirt around.
- Degrease once before sanding so residues are not sanded into the surface.
- Sand the area and remove the sanding dust.
- Spray on the silicone remover and wipe it off with a clean, lint-free cloth before it dries; a second, dry cloth picks up the rest.
- Let the surface flash off, do not touch it with bare hands again, then start with primer or paint.
Tip: Do not use it on freshly painted surfaces or between base coat and clear coat; work in a well-ventilated area and keep sources of ignition away.
